Marlin says the 308 MX is its best selling rifle now so I would not think it would be discontinued making the cartridge obsolete and even if they did it would only increase the value of your rifle. It is based on the .307 Winchester with a goal to duplicate .308 Winchester performance. Technically with Remingtons purchase of Marlin these guns they were probably under no obligation to be serviced under the Warranty. They did fix them until they ran out of receivers. The 308 and 338's had been discontinued due to Remington's issues with trying to learn how to build lever actions.

There are reports floating around the internet that Remington has stopped production of Marlin leverguns for at least the remainder of 2011. This could be good news or bad news. If they are halting production to put things in order then I guess it's good news. But very soon it could become difficult to find a new Marlin.To me the only similarity between the two is the designation .308. Thats where it finishes. The rest is so, so different. The general idea is to only fire from the rifle the ammunition it is designed for. If the MX was designed for .308 Win it would say so on the side of the barrel.
