Lithic arkose

Members 2, 4, and 6 of the Xujiahe Formation are mainly composed of gray medium-grained, medium-fine-grained lithic arkose, arkose lithic sandstone, and lithic quartz sandstone, which are the main reservoir segments of the Xujiahe Formation. The second Member of the Xujiahe Formation is the best reservoir in the Hechuan gas field.

Lithic sandstones, or lithic arenites, or litharenites, are sandstones with a significant (>5%) component of lithic fragments, though quartz and feldspar are usually present as well, along with some clayey matrix. Lithic sandstones can have a speckled (salt and pepper) or gray color, and are usually associated with one specific type of lithic fragment (i.e., igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic). By the same token, 25% of lithic fragments in a sandstone make it a litharenenite (lithic arenite) by this scheme. ... Arkose Lithic Arkose Feldspathic ...Sedimentary rock - Clastic, Chemical, Organic: There are many different systems of classifying sandstones, but the most commonly used schemes incorporate both texture (the presence and amount of either interstitial matrix—i.e., clasts with diameters finer than 0.03 millimetre—or chemical cement) and mineralogy (the relative amount of quartz and the relative abundance of rock fragments to ... The quartz arenite and arkose have relatively little silt-clay matrix, while the lithic wacke has abundant matrix. Clastic sedimentary rocks in which a significant proportion of the clasts are larger than 2 millimetres are known as conglomerate if the clasts are well rounded, and breccia if they are angular.

Arkose is a detrital sandstone that contains at least 25% feldspar. It includes felsic arkose and lithic arkose. Arkose usually forms in areas of strong tectonic movements and dry and cold climates, where the parent rock is granite or granitic gneiss. Arkose forms due to physical weathering, severe erosion and rapid deposition of quartz ... The Chang 8 sandstones in the Zhenjing area are compositionally immature and have an average framework composition of Q 46 F 24 RF 30, so they are classified as feldspathic litharenites and lithic arkose (Fig. 5 A) following the classification of Folk (1974). If the detrital grains in the sandstones, including quartz, feldspar, lithic and mica ...

Abstract. Detrital modes of sandstone suites primarily reflect the different tectonic settings of provenance terranes, although various other sedimentological factors also influence sandstone compositions. Comparisons of sandstone compositions are aided by grouping diverse grain types into a few operational categories having broad genetic ...The quartz arenite and arkose have relatively little silt-clay matrix between the larger sand-sized grains, while the lithic wacke has abundant matrix. Clastic sedimentary rocks in which a significant proportion of the clasts are larger than 2 mm are known as conglomerate if the clasts are well rounded, and breccia if they are angular. Consequently, at medium to high metamorphic grades, an arkose as defined by Pettijohn et al. ( 1973) is indistinguishable from an 'arkosic arenite' or a 'lithic ...…

They contain 23%–56.5% alkali feldspars and plagioclases, 45%–61.5% quartz, and 5%–12% lithic fragments. The grain sizes vary from 0.125 to 0.25 mm. The grains are subangular and show a medium sorting.
