96 Polaris Explorer 300 Problems. I have a 96 explorer 300 that was starting fine and one day I shut it off and it would not start by the starter. All I heard was clicking coming from the sylinoid. It started fine by pull starting it. I installed a new sylinoid and still had the same problem. Yes - there is a switch assembly on the left side of the handlebars - if it has an internal problem or if the wires going to it develop a poor connection, it will act the same as a failing key switch. There is an adjustment that can be made to regulate the amount of injected oil. When I bought my 2000 Xplorer 400, I had the dealer adjust it so it gets a little more oil than is called for in the service manual. It starts if charged, and will pull start and stay running with battery charged or low, but measured voltage at battery running idle between 12-12.4V. two adjkustments on throttle cable, one on the etc box at thubm throttle , the other on top of carb on the two strokes, as long as there is still adjustment at both ends and you have 1/8 inch of sack at thumb throttle it is ok, choke adjustment,I cant remember if there is one on two strokes, if there is it will be towards the middle of the cable.Both of them! Something that helps stop this is to pack gobs of grease around the ends of the cables to repel water.
