If I recall, you can use them as fish/bird bait instead. 4. You need to read farming magazines to make cure for diseases. It takes quite a bit of time for the rotten food to turn into compost -- 3 or 4 weeks, if I remember right. You'll also need a sack to be able to "harvest" the compost from the composter. And worms.
