Western University (Kansas), a historically black college in Quindaro, Kansas, United States from 1865 to 1943. Western University of Health Sciences, a private graduate-level university in Pomona, California, United States. Western University of Pennsylvania, a former name of the University of Pittsburgh from 1819 to 1908.Western’s 1916-1917 catalog listed enrollment at $8.50 per month for room and board; $1.50 in trade fees, Kansas students were exempt; $1 one-time entrance fee, and $1 gymnasium fee per semester. Laundry, textbooks, and uniforms were not included. Western University’s renown grew after hiring Robert G. Jackson.

KU began its football program on November 22, 1890, at Baldwin. The Topeka Daily Capital reported that the game "had its first introduction into Western colleges today. Baker University defeated Kansas University, 22 to 9." The Weekly University Courier said the Baker-KU contest was the "first football match of any importance."An Era of Progress and Promise shows that in 1910 Western was school of 300 students and twenty teachers. However, newspaper accounts show an enrollment of 100-150 in most years. The school had six departments.
